Wayne Johnson, Archaeologist with the Sydney Harbour Foreshore Authority, led a special, one-off tour on the Dig Site for interested individuals who had been unable to attend The Site Open Day held in March.
440 people walked over the site and learned of its history and future as part of the National Trust Heritage Festival.
The Open Day provided the community the opportunity to view the Dig Site and to meet members of the YHA Project Team who will be managing the design development process. Sydney Learning Adventures ran tours over the site throughout the day, pointing out building foundations and telling stories of the early residents of the site and what became of them.
The most recent architectural plans for the newly named ‘Sydney Harbour YHA’, and plans for the Archaeology Education Centre, were on display, and Allison Cronin (one of Tzannes Architects involved in the site) and YHA project staff, were on-hand to answer any questions.
